Itinerary Mobile App

Tripper, a travel-focused mobile app, simplifies itinerary planning while offering insightful travel guidance. Amidst the abundance of online resources, Tripper consolidates the most relevant sources from the internet, aligning with diverse traveler preferences based on popular reviews. It enables users to seamlessly book activities, map out locations, store crucial travel information, and share experiences with friends – all within a single app.

This is a personal project centered on Tripper's branding, visual identity, and UX/UI design.

THE PROBLEM

Tripper stems from my personal travel experiences, driven by the challenges faced during meticulous itinerary planning. As a detail-oriented traveler, I understand the time and effort invested in both pre-trip research and on-the-go plan execution. The objective was to delve into the shared experiences of fellow travelers and discover ways to simplify trip itinerary planning for individuals who appreciate organization.

USER INTERVIEWS

The goal of conducting user interviews was to delve into the challenges people encounter while crafting travel itineraries.

The study comprised:

• 3 rounds of user interviews
• 4 participants in the initial round; usability testing involved 5 participants
• Participants with a minimum of two trips in the previous year
• Individuals who perceive themselves as seasoned trip leaders

THE PROCESS

Post the initial interview, I've used an Affinity Map to gather common patterns and categories taken from the interview's insights. One notable trend highlighted the emphasis travelers place on meticulous trip planning and the various factors influencing their research.

After identifying common experiences and behaviors among travelers, a persona was crafted in serving as the cornerstone for the app's design and research.

USER FLOW

The proposed user flow was segmented into three phases, aligning with the anticipated paths users might take to accomplish their desired itinerary.

PROTOTYPING

Initially, the plan was to design a desktop application, as most travel booking apps were used on desktops for extensive research and comparison. However, after reviewing interview insights, I shifted Tripper to a mobile app focused on being a reliable travel resource throughout the trip. Users highlighted the need for on-the-go itinerary planning, reinforcing the app's adaptability for trip planning and modifications. My goal was to streamline the mobile research experience.

I’ve used sketches in visualizing features and interactivity, and designed a low-fidelity prototype that underwent initial usability testing. Some key findings were noted from the exploration phase.

BRANDING

To cater to users seeking simplicity and insights in travel planning, Tripper embraced a minimalist approach, steering clear of overwhelming colors. The choice of calming blue hues was chosen to impart a sense of tranquility and neutrality to users navigating their journeys within the app paired with clean and consistent typography.

FINAL PROTOTYPE

After applying design solutions from the previous usability testing, brand guidelines were applied into a high-fidelity prototype.

START UP PHASE SOLUTIONS

Tripper takes note of important and useful travel information that users share to provide insight on experiences that fit their travel needs and give them access to important information when they need it.

EXPLORATION / REVIEW PHASE SOLUTIONS

All travelers interviewed in the study rely heavily on reviews and compare them from different sites. This takes up a lot of time and accumulates opened tabs. Tripper makes this easier by pulling together the highest reviewed restaurants, tourist attractions, and guided tours from lists all over the internet.

Adding a mapping feature was important for users to find activities relative to other activities they had in a day.
